Beaches near Saundersfoot

Broadfield sits on the edge of Saundersfoot, so the beach is a walk away. Here are the beaches we send our guests to, from the little cove through the woods to the big sandy bays in Tenby, and how to reach each one without moving the car.

Walk from your pitch

Saundersfoot beach is about a 23 minute walk along the main road, or about a 10 minute walk through Saundersfoot Bay woods down to Glen Beach.

Glen Beach is the closest. The path through the woods brings you out above the sand, and it is a lovely way to start the day. Saundersfoot beach is the big one: a long sandy beach beside the harbour, with shops, cafes and Captain Silver's crazy golf on the harbourside.

Along the coast from Saundersfoot

From the village the Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs north to Coppet Hall, Wiseman's Bridge and Amroth, each an easy walk from the last.

Coppet Hall has a sandy beach and facilities. From there the old tramway and its tunnels carry on towards Wiseman's Bridge, and Amroth has a long beach at the end of the coast path. All three are quieter than the village on a busy day.

  • Coppet Hall: sand, and the start of the old tramway walk.
  • Wiseman's Bridge: through the tunnels from Coppet Hall.
  • Amroth: a long beach at the end of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Tenby's beaches

Tenby is about five minutes by car, or a short bus ride from the stop at the park entrance. It has three beaches: North Beach by the harbour, Castle Beach below Castle Hill, and the long sweep of South Beach. With the harbour streets and the walled town, it makes an easy full day out.

On a busy summer day the bus saves hunting for a parking space.

Worth the drive

Further along the coast, Barafundle Bay is regularly rated one of the best beaches in the country. You reach it on foot from Stackpole Quay, so it stays quiet even in summer. Freshwater West, on the west coast, is a wide, wild surfing beach, worth the trip for the scenery alone.

Before you go

  • Check the tide times, especially for the walk to Wiseman's Bridge and for rock pools.
  • Read the beach notices before swimming.
  • Some beaches limit dogs on part of the sand in the summer months. The signs at each beach say where, so check before you go.
  • Parking and facilities change with the season.

Stay close to the sea

Broadfield is a family-run campsite and caravan park with grass pitches for tents, touring caravans and campervans, and gravel hardstanding for motorhomes, each with a 10 amp hook-up. Pitch up, walk to the beach, and come back to supper at Jan'z on the park.
